PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This large and architecturally imposing coffee table is a confident expression of French design modernism at the height of the 1970s, a period that embraced chrome as the defining luxury material of the contemporary interior. The generous rectangular form — measuring over 123 centimetres in length — is supported on a chrome framework whose curved end supports introduce an elegant organic element into what might otherwise have been an entirely rectilinear composition.

The two-tier arrangement plays a studied chromatic counterpoint: the upper shelf in clear transparent glass allows visual access through the table, while the lower shelf in black lacquered glass provides both visual weight and a dramatic tonal contrast with the polished chrome. This pairing of transparency and opacity, combined with the cold brilliance of the metal, creates a piece that reads with equal force from any vantage point.

Tables of this type — large, chrome-framed, two-tiered — occupied a central place in the most progressive French interiors of the decade. They graced the apartments of architects, designers, and forward-thinking collectors, serving as centrepieces around which the entire furnishing vocabulary of the room was organised.

In good vintage condition overall. Both glass shelves are present and intact. The chrome retains its characteristic reflective quality.
