PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Adrien Audoux and Frida Minet were the undisputed masters of rope furniture in mid-twentieth century France, producing iconic seating, tables and decorative objects in natural cordage from their shop on the Rue de l’Abbé in Paris from the 1930s onwards. These two imposing circular coffee tables, produced in their spirit and style, demonstrate the enduring appeal of their approach well into the 1970s, when the Audoux-Minet aesthetic remained a touchstone of French naturalist design.
Each table is entirely covered in densely coiled natural rope, wound tightly across the broad circular top surface to create a rich, deeply textured field of concentric spirals. The rim of each top is finished with a border of braided rope that defines the edge and adds a refined decorative articulation to the silhouette. The cruciform pedestal base follows the same principle: each of the four projecting sections is uniformly wrapped in rope, the natural fibres creating a continuous surface that unifies top and base into a single coherent object of great material warmth.
At 112 centimetres in diameter and 49.5 centimetres in height, each table is generously proportioned — substantial enough to anchor a large seating group while retaining the human warmth and organic richness that define the Audoux-Minet aesthetic. Sold as a pair, the two tables may be presented together as a composed ensemble or used independently in separate rooms.
In very good vintage condition, the rope coverings well preserved with good colour and texture throughout. A statement pair in the great tradition of French naturalist design, ideal for an interior that prizes craft, texture and organic warmth.
