Wrought Iron & Gilt Brass Coffee Table with Sculptural Tree Branch Legs, in the Style of Willy Daro, c.1970

A spectacular and highly decorative coffee table with sculptural tree-branch supports in the characteristic manner of Willy Daro, the celebrated Belgian designer renowned for his nature-inspired brass furnishings of the 1960s and 1970s. Pieces of this type, which combine structural function with sculptural naturalism, represent one of the most distinctive currents in late twentieth-century decorative arts.

The table is constructed on a framework of black lacquered wrought iron, forming the rectangular structure and shelf supports. Rising from each corner, four remarkable sculptural legs are cast in gilt brass in the form of naturalistic tree branches — each branch extending organically with secondary twigs and precisely observed bud and leaf details at the terminals. The warm gilt tone of the brass casts luminous highlights against the dark ironwork.

Two clear glass shelves — one at the top and one at the lower tier — rest within the iron framework, allowing an unobstructed view of the sculptural legs from any angle. The combination of nature-inspired ornament with a rational geometric frame is emblematic of the Daro aesthetic.
