PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

A commanding presence in any interior, this large French modernist coffee table from around 1970 showcases the era’s fascination with the pairing of industrial chrome and the cool transparency of Lucite. At 126.5 × 86.5 × 42 cm, it occupies a seating arrangement with confident authority, offering two generous glass shelves within a frame that is at once robust and visually weightless.

The corner uprights are fashioned from solid Lucite — the clear acrylic material that was, in the hands of French designers of the 1970s, almost a signature of the avant-garde. Their transparency allows the eye to pass through the table’s structure, dissolving mass while preserving function. Chrome brackets articulate the junctions between Lucite column and glass tier, providing crisp, precise detailing that reads as genuinely architectural.

The chrome-edged frame carries a continuous line of subtle studded detail along each rail, echoing the decorative vocabulary seen in pieces associated with leading Parisian designers and upholsterers of the period. The two clear glass shelves sit flush within this frame, their surfaces offering both practical surface space and an unobstructed view through the table to the floor below.

This table presents in excellent condition, its chrome bright and its Lucite uprights clear and uncracked. It is a substantial and serious piece of French 1970s design, ideal for a large living room where its scale and the refinement of its materials can be fully appreciated.
