Modernist Cast Iron Fireback by R. Deret, Cast by Stern Foundry, 1982

The cast iron fireback occupies a unique position at the intersection of the decorative arts and sculpture: a fundamentally functional object whose vertical surface, like the panel of a relief, invites the expression of an artistic vision.
