This pumpkin-form ice bucket unites the decorative naturalism of the nineteenth-century French silversmith’s tradition with the whimsical spirit that animated so much French table ware of the 1960s and 1970s. The body is modelled as a compact, perfectly proportioned pumpkin, its lobed surface polished to a high silver-plate lustre. The removable lid is surmounted by a sculptural stem and vine leaves rendered in gilt brass, their warm golden tone providing a deliberately rustic counterpoint to the cool precision of the silver body. The overall effect is one of studied pastoral elegance — at once practical and festive.

The use of two-metal construction — silver-plated base metal for the body and gilt brass for the decorative botanical elements — is a hallmark of the Gallia repertoire. Gallia, the mid-range silver-plating division of the Christofle group, was established in the nineteenth century to bring the quality and vocabulary of Christofle craftsmanship to a broader market.
