PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Neoclassical magazine rack in mahogany and brass, attributed to Maison Jansen. The warmth of the mahogany is set off by the gleam of brass, in a sober, balanced design typical of the neoclassical vocabulary. Modest in size, measuring 42.5 cm wide, 22.5 cm deep and 43.5 cm high, it fits easily beside an armchair or a sofa. French work, circa 1940.
The 1930s and 1940s saw a pared-down neoclassicism take hold in French decorative arts, frequently pairing fine woods with brass. This magazine rack belongs to that tradition of the small occasional piece, both functional and decorative, intended to hold newspapers, magazines and books.
