PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This elegant guéridon presents a refined double-tiered structure in ebonised wood and chromed tubular steel — two materials that together define the aesthetic vocabulary of mid-century modernism. The circular tops, finished in a deep lacquered black that plays beautifully against the cool gleam of the chrome frame, speak to the clarity and precision of the Bauhaus ideal: form reduced to its essentials, function inseparable from beauty. The proportions are assured and the construction impeccable, the work of a French craftsman who had thoroughly absorbed the lessons of the modernist movement.

The piece pays clear tribute to the pioneering work of Marcel Breuer (1902–1981), the Hungarian-born Bauhaus master whose experiments with tubular steel in the 1920s transformed the landscape of modern furniture design. A student and later teacher at the Bauhaus in Dessau, Breuer discovered in chromed tubular steel a material of extraordinary potential: light, strong, hygienic, and above all modern. His iconic Wassily Chair (1925) and Cesca Chair (1928) set the template for a generation of designers on both sides of the Atlantic, and by the 1950s the aesthetic he had inaugurated had fully permeated French ateliers from Paris to the provinces.

Simultaneously minimal and warm, this guéridon adapts with ease to the most varied interior contexts. In a modernist loft or a mid-century salon, it finds its natural habitat alongside Barcelona chairs, Saarinen tulip tables, or the sculptural forms of Mategot. In a more eclectic or traditional interior, it provides a counterpoint of clean geometric logic that anchors and refreshes the surrounding furniture. A piece for the collector who values both rigour and elegance in equal measure.
