PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This remarkable three-tier guéridon, attributed to Maison Jansen and dating from the 1930s–1940s, represents one of the most characteristic expressions of French Art Déco luxury furnishing. The piece combines a silvered brass frame with three circular tops in églomisé mirror glass—a technique in which gold or silver leaf is applied to the reverse of glass to create a richly decorative and reflective surface of remarkable depth and luminosity.
The églomisé technique, revived with great enthusiasm during the Art Déco period by French decorators of the highest calibre, was favoured precisely for its ability to lend intimate interiors a sense of brilliance and movement. Here it is deployed across three tiered circular shelves of diminishing size, creating a composition that is at once architecturally satisfying and decoratively exuberant. The silvered brass frame, with its slender uprights and classical mouldings, provides the perfect foil to the mirror tops.
Maison Jansen, the legendary Parisian decorating house founded in 1880, was celebrated for combining the finest materials with the most exacting standards of craftsmanship. This guéridon, with its conjunction of silvered metal and églomisé glass, is a testament to Jansen’s unique ability to synthesise historical techniques with the boldness of twentieth-century design.
