PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

A fine three-tier circular dumbwaiter stand in the English Regency and French neoclassical tradition, combining mahogany veneer with delicate brass gallery work. Pieces of this type, known in France as serviteurs muets, were essential furnishings of the genteel domestic interior, used for the display and service of tea, cakes, and light refreshments.

The three circular tiers are graduated in diameter and veneered in figured mahogany, each enclosed by a fine pierced brass gallery. They are mounted on a central brass column that terminates at the top in a brass ring handle for ease of movement. The base is a tripod of three elegantly curved legs, continuing the neoclassical tradition of the late eighteenth century.

The overall form is slim and elegant, well-suited to placement beside a sofa or armchair. The piece combines practical utility with an ornamental quality typical of fine French furnishing of the period.

In very good original condition, with a warm patina to the mahogany veneers and a rich gilt to the brass elements throughout.
