Neoclassical Mahogany & Brass Drinks Trolley with Spoked Wheels, in the Style of Maison Jansen, c.1940

An elegant neoclassical drinks trolley in the refined manner of Maison Jansen, combining richly figured mahogany veneer with polished brass hardware of the highest quality. The design exemplifies the Jansen house’s characteristic synthesis of classical formality with sophisticated luxury, a hallmark of the firm’s furnishing for the world’s grandest interiors.

The upper tier is a generously proportioned shaped tray veneered in figured mahogany and enclosed by a finely beaded brass gallery border. The lower shelf repeats the same refined mahogany and brass treatment. The trolley moves on two large brass spoked wheels to the front, supported by a further pair of smaller brass castors at the rear for easy mobility. A gracefully curved brass push-handle connects the two sides at the back.

The underframe is constructed in brass with a lacquered iron cross-brace, and the wheel rims and spokes are of cast and turned brass throughout. The quality of all metalwork is consistent with the Jansen atelier’s high standards.
