Chrome and rubber share two properties that place them in the same material world: both are products of industrial transformation — ore smelted and plated; latex vulcanized and set — and both carry within them the history of the factory, the laboratory, the machine. For a sofa to be made of these materials is not simply a stylistic choice but a philosophical statement: the domestic interior colonized by industry, not as a failure of decoration but as its own formal proposition. The designer or manufacturer who signed this piece “System” appears to have understood this — the name itself declares a conceptual stance: furniture conceived not as autonomous decorative objects but as components within a larger ordered set, a vocabulary rather than a noun.
The chromatic argument is precise. Chrome is not a colour — it is a mirror, and in the domestic interior it borrows and reflects whatever surrounds it: the room, the light, the person seated across from it. Black rubber is its chromatic opposite: pure absorption, indifferent to the visual environment.
